Poppy New Hybrids Mixed is a stunning variety of annual poppies known for their large, double blooms in a vivid array of colours. The variety’s large, ruffled petals and rich tones make it a favourite among gardeners who enjoy creating vibrant floral displays. Additionally, these poppies are excellent for attracting pollinators, enhancing the biodiversity of your garden.
Sow Poppy New Hybrids Mixed seeds directly outdoors from March to May, or in autumn for earlier blooms the following year. The seeds can be scattered thinly in their final position, as poppies do not like being transplanted. Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, thin them out to 15-30cm apart, giving them enough space to grow and ensuring they receive plenty of sunlight. This variety thrives in well-drained soil, and it’s best to choose a sunny spot in the garden for optimal growth.
To enjoy a continuous display of blooms, harvest the flowers regularly from June to September. These poppies are not only beautiful as fresh cut flowers but also as dried seed heads, which can be used in winter arrangements. Allowing some of the flowers to go to seed will encourage self-seeding, ensuring that these stunning blooms return year after year with minimal effort. Regular watering during dry spells and a light feeding of fertiliser will support healthy growth and abundant flowering.
